Question

I am cognizant

my flight

relies on the ladder

of Babel

I speak

ergo, you love me

Why must my speech

be one with flight—

The paradox

of writing

You away from

me away from you

while you witness

all in silence

5NOV02 Letter to Andy Goldsworthy

Reworked the feathers

This time around a rock

I hoped this would focus

more on the rhythm of layers

Incoming tide prevented

the benefit of additional attention

The sea gently lifted

the feathers away from stone—

; “it was as if wings formed”

I found this so interesting

I decided to repeat my labor

; “laid feathers to form a circle”

But the sea became rough

pushing rather than lifting

The tension between sea and

stone frayed the curvatures

But it was a good experiment

I learnt something

about stone, sea, feathers…
